Who We Are
We are a group of T'exelc community members who work with the Cariboo Tribal Council Treaty Society and Treaty Team to develop negotiation documents (what we want under Treaty) and negotiation strategies (how to get it). Each of the four communities of the Northern Secwepemc te Qelmucw has this kind of working group.
Our group currently (January 2002) consists of Millie Emile, Laurie Alphonse, Joan Wycotte, Barb Wycotte, Clotilde Thomas (Elder), Agnes Anderson (Elder), Jean William (Elder), Hazel Soich (Elder), Violet Alphonse (Elder), Roberta Gilbert (Elder), Charlie Gilbert (Elder), Virginia Gilbert (Elder), Frances Supernault, and Lloyd (Sandy) Gilbert. We meet with our Treaty Coordinator (Jason Gordon), our Self-Goverment Coordinator (Alberta Archie) and our Treaty Assistant (Roxanne Robbins) at least once a month to make sure the Treaty Team has direct input from community members.
We also attend and participate in larger Treaty Team meetings several times a month and participate in work-shops, conferences and field trips to help us learn about treaty-related issues and to find out what other First Nations are doing.
